Mr. Ted BrooksDistrict Tech Coordinator and5th-8th Computer TeacherContact me at: email@example.com
I'm Ted Brooks, the district Tech Director and I also teach computers for 5th-8th grade. I am excited (and slightly exhausted) as we have moved to a full 1:1 environment throughout the district this year. Pre-k through 1st grade all have iPads to use in class. 2nd-8th grade all have a dedicated chromebook for use throughout the day. 5th-8th grade take them home at night and use them for much of their homework.
All the teachers are working hard to learn how to use Google Classroom as their main portal for communicating with students. This has been a fantastic development for education and is exploding in use in schools across the nation. It is great for giving instruction, distributing classwork, and making sure nothing gets lost. No more "My dog ate my homework" excuses.
My classes focus heavily on using the "G-Suite" of products; Docs, Sheets, Slides. Forms, Gmail, Youtube, and Sites. In addition to traditional word processing and spreadsheet skills, students learn how to create and edit video and then post it on Youtube (using proper precautions) and create their own websites with a digital portfolio. These are the 21st century skills they will need to know and will help prepare them for future schooling and careers.
