District Letter to Parents 10-29-2020

October 29, 2020

Families,

Last night the board engaged in a lengthy conversation regarding our remote learning and the uptick
of COVID cases in both our state and county. The discussion again centered on when or if we should
begin our phase in process. With the increase in positivity rate (As provided by figures found on the
IDHP website https://www.dph.illinois.gov/regionmetrics?regionID=1) and the Governor putting
Lake County in Tier1 mitigation, it is not in our best interest to begin face-to-face instruction at this
time.

The board has once again decided to continue with remote learning through the rest of the semester.
We will still monitor the data and the board will still engage in discussions at future board meetings
regarding the numbers. This means the earliest we would begin the phase in process is January 19,
2021.

Since the beginning of the school year the district has had multiple staff members test positive for
COVID 19. We have also had a number of staff forced to quarantine due to close contact with
positive individuals. To date we have yet to have all staff members free of COVID and/or
quarantining. This difficulty on our staff along with the increase in cases both in the state and locally
played a large factor in the decision making for our board.

Food Distribution:

This summer Governor Pritzker recognized Tuesday November 3rd as a one-time “State
Holiday” for voting purposes. Because of this we will move our afternoon food distribution for
next week to Wednesday November 4th .

Calendar:

We want parents to be aware that we will be looking at the calendar again after the holidays.
Spring break will remain in place, but there could be modifications of other dates depending on
COVID circumstances.

As always, it’s important we continue to work together and support our students, families, and staff.

Thanks again.

Sincerely,
Jeffrey McCartney
